All of us have been affected by COVID in some way and as a mom, I want Michigan to fully open back up. In so many ways, COVID-19 has robbed us of memories, opportunities, and our time.
But I think now more than ever it’s so important to hold onto hope. Being hopeful to fully reopen, for a stronger future, for no more COVID-19.
I wear a mask to help protect the people around me, my family, friends and my son. But also to protect people who are high risk, such as the elderly or those with pre-existing conditions. If wearing a mask can help whatsoever, I’m going to do it for those around me.
To have a sense of what is normal I think we need to do what’s right for America and for each other. The only way to do that is if we stand together to get COVID under control. We need to come together, not be divided.
While masks alone may not always prevent the spread of the virus, scientists and doctors agree that masks and face coverings can help to reduce the spread by about 70%, which is huge!!
In addition to wearing masks here are some simple, everyday practices that can help protect you from COVID and other illnesses…
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or upper sleeve when coughing or sneezing. Those
coughs spray droplets at least 6 feet. Sneezes travel as far as 27 feet. These droplets can land on your
face or in your mouth, eyes, and nose. - Wearing a mask because droplets also spread when we talk or raise our voices. These droplets
can carry COVID-19 to other people. - Keep washing your hands with soap and water. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not
available. - Continue to avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
I hope these tips and insight helped! Remember, #SpreadHopeNotCOVID! If you’d like to learn more about preventing the spread, check out the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services here.
